The Piera Systems Particulate Matter (PM) Sensor IPS-7100 is a compact, highly accurate, optical particle sensor that uses laser scattering and Piera’s innovative particle counting ASIC to achieve superior binning and particle measurement across the complete range of PM (0.1 to 10um).

The IPS-7100 sets a new standard in the low-cost sensor market thanks to the introduction of PC0.1 allowing for particle detection, like vape and cigarette (VSD). This sensor outputs particle count (#) and mass concentration (µg/m3) for each of the seven (7) bins: 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, 5, 10. The compact form factor, measuring just under 43mm x 47mm x 13mm, combined with a sensor lifetime over 8 years and a self-cleaning procedure, makes the IPS-7100 the perfect sensor for projects requiring accuracy, performance, and data generation.

The IPS-7100 has a five-pin interface that can communicate over two different protocols: UART and I2C. The IPS-7100 requires a 5V power supply but can work with 3.3V and 5V microcontrollers. The logic is 5V and 3.3V tolerant. Piera has written drivers for both the UART protocol and I2C and available from their Github repository. Both interfaces are described in their datasheet. The ability of all Piera IPS sensors to do (VSD) is a great demonstration of what can be achieved with their technology; imagine all the things that you can do now because you can accurately count sub-micron particles and classify the actual pollutants. The product is ROHS and CE certified.
