Municipality of Maribor's public company Maribor Water Supply has already installed over 30.000 remote smart water meters for the actual water consumption in households, companies and other institutions in Municipality of Maribor.

Impacts
The main advantages of remote smart water meters are that they report the actual water consumption of the users, they trigger the alarm when leaks are detected. The sensors also detect the oversize of the meter and many other useful parameters. In the background, it is all controlled by software that makes possible the creation of a simple maintenance orders or connection to user notification system in the case of alarms (installation leaks, etc.). Users also have the possibility to have and online insight into the current water consumption and, consequently, the possibility of consumption savings.

The biggest challenge was to set up a system to calculate the user’s actual water consumption instead of estimated readings.
