“Moreton Bay Regional Council is Australia’s 3rd largest council (0.5Million residents) and an early adopter of IoT technology to deliver Smart City outcomes. Our council is varied featuring urban centres, farming lands, suburbs and industrial zones spread over forested, coastal, plains and low-altitude mountain areas. Our council is celebrated for offering a mix of country living options at affordable price with proximity to a large city (Brisbane).

Our Smart City projects span from remote water monitoring to park heat monitoring, from people counting to AI-type road asset maintenance. From acquiring valuable evidence-based data measuring the cooling effect of tree canopies for our park planners, to building baseline infrastructure (bringing low-orbit satellite connectivity to our blackspots for ex.) Our Smart City projects received multiple awards, the latest of which is the Data Leadership award we received for our “pothole hunter” project.

We blog internally and train our colleagues in IoT/Smart City tech bi-annually. Our council is already home to the highest number of Smart City practitioners in ANZ. Plans include rolling out Agile business analysis and project management, designing IoT/SC solutions collectively as an integrated council for the maximum benefit of residents. Expanding the visibility of our SC projects, clarifying their value and accountability. Continuing to promote the value of data and refining our Smart City business cases so they reflect true value, not just Opex/Capex savings but also to sustainability, environmental protection, liveability, evidence-based data and enhancing the user experience of our residents.”
