Economy
Yes, Iași is the cultural capital of Romania, another reason for us to be proud of the city’s monuments and distinctive architecture. Yet, more than that, Iași is also a Centre of Excellence in Education. We have here the oldest university in the country: “Alexandru Ioan Cuza”, as well as top departments and faculties grouped in “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University, “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, “Ion Ionescu de la Brad” University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine or “George Enescu” University of the Arts. The over 60,000 well trained students who get their graduate degrees each year in Iași are a highly valuable professional resource for our city.
Let’s not forget that Iași is also a Regional Medical Centre for over 5 million Romanians living in this part of the country, to whom it provides care through 13 public hospitals and 16 private medical centres. The Iași medical school is internationally renowned, and our hospitals benefit from the services of the best specialists in the field.
At the same time, the Iași Municipality has invested heavily in rehabilitating the infrastructure, modernizing the local administration and supporting the business environment. Tens of millions of euros, mainly from European funds, have changed our city’s appearance in record time. This is why we are proud of our business community, which is currently growing in several key sectors, such as IT & C, agricultural, medical or biotechnological research, textiles and many others.
The figures speak for themselves: there are over 10,500 companies registered in the City of Iași. Together, they reported a turnover of over 3.5 billion Euros! Industry giants, like Amazon, Oracle, Conduent, Continental, Pentalog, and a host of others, have already opened branches in Iași, showing that the business environment here is thriving. These figures are constantly rising: during the last two years, the number of people employed in the IT & C & Outsourcing sector tripled, reaching over 20,000 people, who work in a total area of over 250,000 square metres of offices in new, modern buildings! A good example in this respect is the Palas Complex: "a city in the heart of the city”, which boasts new, spacious and modern office rooms, with many leisure and fun areas.

What are our plans for the future?
We are preparing the launch of the largest industry & development park in north-eastern Romania: Fortus Industrial Park, which, spreading over 23 hectares, will become an effective platform for all kinds of investors. We are one of the most transparent local administrations in Romania, our door is always open to serious investors who wish to develop their business in Iași. Innovation and creativity are the key words of our city development strategy.
